While I may not always approve of everything that happens here in Durham, I must acknowledge that I continue to love living here and appreciate the efforts of many who work hard to keep Durham getting better. Even during hard economic times Durham continues to improve. Honestly so many good things continue to happen in Durham it’s hard for me to keep up.
This week the Durham county board of Commissioners unanimously approved to convert roughly 23 acres in north central Durham into a recreational asset, an “Ultiplex” for Ultimate Frisbee and the Triangle Flying Discs Association. It’s going to be located on Riley Rd. (which I’ll admit I wasn’t familiar with.) I look it up on my maps and see it’s not too far from the intersection of Old Oxford and Hamlin Rd. I think this is a good central location and a pretty area.
The finished complex could include up to 6 tournament fields, a pavilion and parking for up to 185 cars. It will be among the first of its kind in the nation. While no longer an active Frisbee player I think this is a great idea and definitely a community asset. As a Realtor I believe when completed it will add value to local properties.
Also this week it was announced that money has been secured to allow Durham to complete the American Tobacco Trail without having to dip into its sidewalk funds. This money will bridge the trail over I-40, extend it around The Streets of Southpoint and finish hard surfacing it down to the Chatham county line. Again this is very exciting news and I couldn’t be happier to hear it.
Everywhere I go with buyers there signs of road work being done, improvements being made and new development under way. It reminds me how fortunate I am to live, work and play here in the Durham and Chapel Hill and Raleigh area.
Real estate values continue to remain flat for the most part. I’ve been having a tremendous year continuously working with multiple buyers, mortgage rates remain unbelievably low, and while there are new challenges in the market that require getting used to, I feel that next year will continue to be a good year for buyers.
